#BeBoldForChange with Winning Women

The team at Lightbulb Leadership Solutions is celebrating International Women’s Day by getting involved with the #BeBoldForChange campaign. Along with our founder and MD Fiona McKay, we’ve pledged to take bold action in celebrating women’s achievements in business, which is why we’ve included some of our top female leaders and entrepreneurs in this post. Trust us, they’re worth reading about.

We’re also using this opportunity to highlight our in-demand and highly successful Winning Women programme where we work closely with organisations and individuals to address and improve on the proportion of women in leadership roles.

Whether it’s a business looking to make a positive change to their leadership team, or women wanting to take the first steps into leadership or elevate their leadership position, Winning Women can help to achieve this by identifying and accelerating female talent and removing any barriers to progression.

Speaking of winning women, here are some who have inspired us in their journey to leadership and success:

Emma Walmsley, GSK

Currently boss of GSK’s Consumer Healthcare division, Walmsley joined the board in January and will take the reigns from the end of this month, making her the seventh female boss in the FTSE 100. A brand expert with 20 years’ experience in luxury and consumer goods, Walmsley joined GSK in 2010 from French cosmetics group L’Oreal, and has proven herself to take this top position. Our favourite quote from Walmsley: “I’m starting to be convinced I have a right to be at the top table in business.”

Helen Gardner, My Next Place

Gardner, a property specialist who began her career growing Nottingham-based lettings company Katie Homes, started a real estate business with a twist. My Next Place innovatively combines the best of traditional high street property specialists with modern extras such as personalised videos of properties that demonstrate local market intelligence and can be shared online socially. Gardner took the bold step of selling her stake the successful Katie Homes to set up this venture, which is never an easy decision. Our favourite quote from Gardner: “I’m proud of our traditional values of honesty and reliability but I’m equally unashamed of our appetite to innovate and evolve in what is a fast-moving sector.”

Liv Garfield, Severn Trent

Following a successful career working for BT where she was responsible for overseeing the company’s £2.5 billion project to provide broadband to two thirds of UK homes, Garfield went on to be appointed CEO of Severn Trent water company. She has been named one of the top 10 ‘global hot shots’ by Fortune and, if that wasn’t enough, Garfield is also a non-executive director of Tesco. Our favourite quote from Garfield: “To be successful today in business, you’ve got to believe in yourself and you’ve got to be yourself: that is it.”

Victoria Molyneux, Want That Trend

Molyneux launched e-boutique Want That Trend in April 2015, which has since gone on be a multi-million pound fashion company that processes more than 2,000 invoices a day. The young mother who left school without any GCSEs has turned over £7 million in the first year of trading and is on track to achieve £10 million this financial year. Our favourite quote from Molyneux: “Sometimes you don’t realise what you’ve achieved and how much you can inspire others.”

Karina Jadhav, Menagerie

A follow northerner Jadhav set the Manchester food scene alight with the recent opening of the £1.5 million restaurant Menagerie on the outskirts of trendy Spinningfields. Born and raised in Blackburn, Jadhav started her career working in the media before opening barbeque restaurant Southern Eleven after an inspirational foodie trip to America. Following this success, Jadhav opened Neighbourhood in Spinningfields, followed by Victor’s in Cheshire’s Hale. Our favourite quote from Jadhav: “I started off working from the ground up, that included working in the kitchen, on the till, doing marketing. I even trained with the accountant so I can do the books. It was a small business and we had to get all hands on deck.”

We are all responsible for ensuring gender equality becomes a reality, which is why we’re offering 10% off our bespoke Winning Women programme for 8th – 10th March. Simply quote the code BEBOLD when you get in touch with our team.
